The reference designation of the components, pin 1 marking of ICs, polarity of power supplies and diodes, pin header assignment and positions of jumpers are usually printed on the PCB with legend print. The PCB manufacturer prints the legend required by the engineer on the solder resist in one of the final production steps.
💡 While these markers are helpful in the design process, they can cause soldering errors during automatic PCB assembly. For this reason, professional assembly manufacturers usually remove all labelling.
